Argentina’s bank and wallet transfers
CBU, CVU, aliases, and the difference between receiving pesos in an account and holding a peso stablecoin.

Two kinds of account, one practical goal
In Argentina, everyday peso payments can move between bank accounts and payment accounts offered by digital wallet providers. A bank account is commonly identified by its CBU; a payment account uses a CVU. Both help route money to a specific destination, but they do not make the underlying institutions or account protections identical.
The CBU has 22 digits. Ask the recipient for the identifier displayed in the app where they want to receive the money, along with the holder’s name. Confirm whether you are paying a bank account or a payment account. A wallet’s familiar brand name alone does not provide enough information to identify the destination.
For someone sending from abroad, the useful goal is usually spendable Argentine pesos. A local account credit can meet that goal without requiring the recipient to handle tokens. A stablecoin balance, by contrast, is an asset in a blockchain wallet and needs a supported route if the recipient later wants money in a local account.
An alias is a shortcut to account details
An alias is a readable name associated with an account identifier. It can make a domestic transfer easier than typing a long number. The BCRA provides for aliases linked to CVUs as well as bank-account aliases. An alias points to an account; it is not a guarantee about the person asking you to pay.
When a banking app resolves an alias, check the resulting holder and account information. If an alias has changed or points to an unexpected person, contact the recipient through an established channel before sending. Do not let a reassuring message in a chat replace the name shown by the payment app.
An international provider’s form may require the numerical CBU or CVU rather than accept an alias. In that case, ask for the number. A convenient identifier accepted by one local app is not necessarily accepted by every provider. Follow the exact fields shown and preserve any leading zeros when copying the information.
Immediate local transfers and their limits
Argentina’s immediate-transfer framework is designed for fast transfers between eligible accounts, including bank and payment accounts, every day. Transferencias 3.0 also supports payments by transfer in shops, including QR-based experiences. These local arrangements explain why recipients may be accustomed to seeing peso payments arrive quickly.
They do not guarantee that an international transfer arrives on the same schedule. A service can still be waiting for foreign funding, a conversion, identity verification, or payout approval. Ask which stage is pending before concluding that the Argentine payment network is responsible for a delay.
Limits and account conditions matter too. Check your institution’s current limit and the process for a larger authorized transfer. Do not treat a limit quoted in an old article as current for your account. If the app rejects a payment, read the explanation and resolve the underlying issue rather than repeatedly changing the amount to force it through.
Pesos, dollars, and peso-linked tokens
A peso payment must go to an appropriate peso destination. The dollar symbol alone can be ambiguous in Argentina, so look for the currency code ARS or USD. Before accepting a quote, check both the currency you are paying and the currency the recipient will receive. A large numerical amount is not meaningful without that unit.
A token such as wARS aims to track the Argentine peso. Holding it does not turn your wallet into a bank account with a CBU, and it does not remove the peso’s exchange-rate risk. If the peso buys fewer dollars, a token tracking pesos will generally reflect that exposure. Token-specific issuer, liquidity, and wallet risks are additional considerations.
If the goal is to pay a local bill, compare the net pesos delivered to the relevant account. If the goal is to keep an asset in a wallet, agree on the exact token and network. These are different endpoints, and their quotes should not be presented as equivalent without including the cost of any remaining conversion or withdrawal.
Using the Argentine routes available in Lex
In Lex, start from Transfers, choose sending or receiving, set the amount, and continue to the methods available for your account. When the Argentine bank-transfer route is offered, follow its instructions and any identity-verification steps. Availability is determined for the actual account and operation, not simply by seeing Argentina in an informational list.
For a deposit, use the instructions for the current operation, including the beneficiary, amount, reference, and expiration where supplied. Do not treat details from a past deposit as permanent. For a payout, add or select the recipient and provide the requested CBU or CVU. Review the name, currency, and estimated net amount before confirming.
Lex separately supports wallet assets where available. A wARS balance and an Argentine bank payout are distinct features, so check the route for the asset and destination you intend to use. You do not need to assume that a bank transfer first requires buying wARS. The operation’s quote and instructions describe the actual supported path.
Helping a parent in Córdoba from Europe
Valentina in Italy wants to help her father in Córdoba pay household expenses. He prefers his existing peso payment account. Before depositing euros, she confirms that her Lex account offers the necessary funding and Argentine payout routes and that the destination type is accepted. She asks him to copy his CVU and checks the holder’s name.
Valentina compares the same euro budget with other services using the net pesos expected in that account. She includes all applicable conversion and withdrawal costs and notes whether the quote expires before her funding may arrive. If she instead compares a token quote, she adds the remaining steps needed to reach her father’s account.
Once the funds are available, she reviews the current payout and keeps its operation identifier. Her father confirms the credit in his own app rather than relying on a screenshot from her. If a delay exceeds the estimate, they can provide the relevant receipts and account details privately to support. Clear records make it easier to locate the unfinished stage.
